long story short, I painted this dragon for another drawing... but I ended up changing the nature of that project and I needed to scratch the dragon, but I didn't want to just throw him away so I put this togheter...
this depicts the very first time Draghi takes his master flying... ( that's right... the dragon TOOK his master flying... not the other way around ). Obviously Jon wasn't prepared for that... nor did the dragon have any saddle, but he ( the dragon ) was so anctious to get in the air with his master that he literally just threw him on his back and took off. not even realising that Jon didn't have anything to hang on to and he slid down his back and grabbed the tip of his tail just in time. of course Draghi, lost in the joy of flight didn't notice this and he continued with his energetic flight... noticing a passing bird he of course proceded to chasing it with poor Jon hanging on to the tip of his tail for dear life...
About a houre later Draghi finally realises what had happened and comes in for a landing... needless to say Jon was not very happy about the whole incident and didn't want to hear about flying for a few months...
Draghi was most sad at this and fealt sorry for putting his master through this ( meh, but they eventually make up... )
He he he, the story that you put with it helps the the humour greatly! *took his master for a ride!*
Very nice, you finished him off rather quickly and that is record time for drawing Jon! Nice choice of colours, having the blue sky makes the dragon POP out of the page, see what having a non-textured background against a textured subject can do for an image?
and about the non detailled background... well, you can't always have such a simple background as this... certain scenes require specific backgrounds... some of wich can be very detailled... the problem persists...
working with undetailled backgrounds was very fast... like for those 2 cards and this one... but you can't make all your works like this... especially if they are illustrations...
A WONDERFUL, COMICAL PICTURE!!! IT'S so cute!!! The dragon looks so playful and the poor boy holding on for dear life, you can't help but laugh at it... Him loosing a shoe with it sets off the picture perfectly... FANTASTIC PICTURE!!!
I love your design and execution. It's easy to see the emotions you describe in the story.
Looking at your unfolding story of Jon and Draghi over the years is a delight to behold, especially the early works that you apparently don't care for. They have an innocence and power to them that's indescribable. Especially "My Little Draghi." Every time I look at it, and especially at Draghi's unfeigned joy at being with Jon, it moves me to start crying. It's the only art on DA that has done so.

So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.
