well... there are so many things gone wrong with this pic that I don't even know were to begin... but I will let the reader discovere them and be amaised at my lack of skill.

ANyways, the story: The male ( on top ) is Draghi, main char in my story ( along with his winter elven master Jonaleth Feinhaart ), and the female ( below ) is the dragoness of Amelya Pinefrost a winter elfess ( or what ever they call elven women ).
Well, this is a bit of a Romeo and Juliet story, the dragons' respective masters hate each other, but the dragons are madly in love with each other. But no matter how strong their fealings for each other are, their loyalities lie with their masters first ( so they won't just fly off togheter ). But they are not going to give up on either. They have been secretly meeting for several seasons now, away from their masters' eyes. Dragons of their race ( green ) mate for life, and these two have selected eachother as mates, but they can only seal this bond if they mate and have hatchlings togheter. But unlike Romea and Juliet, this love story will have a happy ending, as the two draconians will not only manage to stop their masters from hating each other, but they will even be able to open their masters' eyes and make them see that the two elves have many things in common ( unlike what they thought initially) and will fall in love themselves, after some time.

On this particular autumn meeting, Draghi made a small rade in one of the elven Orchyards and brought his love a branch of appeles. I thought apples were the most apropiate gift that a dragon could make another dragon. Appeles are uncomon enough ( in the willd ) so that it's a rare treat, but also ortinary enough so as to not make it a materialistic gift. My dragons are mostly carnivorous, so bringing her meat would be nothing out of the ortinary and if he brought anything that is non-comestible ( like jullery or other shiny things ) it would only go to enforce the idea that dragons are treasure horders.

And lastly, she will not just snatch the appeles from the branch and gooble them down quickly ( as dragons usually do with meat ), but she will savore them by taking each one and crushing it with her jaws and then smearing it all over the inside of her mouth so as to get the most out of the sweet taste. Not to mentione that she will be very pleasently surprised by her mate's gift.

P.S. yea, that big blob of pencill in the upper left corner is sapposed to be a apple.

i love the way you did the wings going down his back. that's a very practicle approach that i didn't even notice in your unfinished sketch. i love her face. she's gorgeous. the detail on his head distinguishing him as male is a very cool thing as well. a lot of people who draw dragons forget that modern day reptiles as well as dinosaurs had pysical distinctions between the sexes.

the detail on the skin turned out really well btw. i think it was just lighter before so it was harder for me to really see the detail you put into it.

i love the narrative. this is a great story.
go you!

This is SUCH a sweet picture; I love it. I think you really do yourself too hard with your own self-critique. I can find no technical or anatomy errors in this at all, and everything other than that lies only in developing your own style.

thanks for the kaind words and for stoping by...

thanks... but I tend to disagree about modern day reptiles having obvious differences between sexes. For example, take crocodiles... there's no way of determining their sex unless you get really "personal" with their vent ( if you know what I mean )... and same thing goes for most other reptiles, and if there are differences, they are mostly very descreet... like in iguanas... watching animal planet gave me a bit on insight on the subject...

However, I do not reguard my dragons as reptiles, so I really wanted to go and do something to show obvious differences between the sexes. Glad to heare that you think it worked.

I also tryed to make the wings larger then in any other of my pictures, trying to reach that magic wing/body ratio that defines flying animals. As for the wing streatching to their taills, yea, I sappose they would need that extention bolth to give them a larger area to catch air, as well as stearing ( similar to how birds use their tail feathers ).

And thanks for stoping by...
